Upcoming change in traffic: november 10th

This week, new water main installations will begin, resulting in the closure of the westbound right lane of Ogden Avenue. The closure will be from Lombard Avenue to East Avenue for the coming months as construction advances through the project area. During this time, parking is prohibited along Ogden Avenue from Lombard Avenue to East Avenue. Please refer to the map below.

Additional temporary daytime closures may be required to complete improvements at various intersections. Visit the contact page to  sign up for project updates and receive the latest traffic news.

The City of Berwyn will also be sharing information with the community via social media to help inform patrons of available parking during this time. We encourage businesses to reshare this information with their customers.

Any planned impacts on water services at private properties will be communicated in advance of any planned construction activities. Thank you for your continued patience and support as we transform Ogden Avenue!

PROJECT CONTEXT

The study area is located along Ogden Avenue, also known as Route 66, stretching the entire limits of Berwyn. This corridor has a long history within Berwyn and Ogden Avenue is a main corridor within Berwyn, with the majority of land use being commercial. Berwyn’s Development Corporation recognizes Route 66/Ogden Avenue as one of its four districts, which also includes Roosevelt Avenue, Cermak Road, and The Depot District. A variety of businesses occupy space along Ogden Avenue, including auto related businesses, restaurants, retail and local businesses.

Existing Site Conditions

The City is coordinating several major improvements to be designed and constructed during the same time to minimize the duration of impacts to businesses and motorists and to maximize the use of available grant funds. Berwyn recognizes the balance between making infrastructure improvements and ensuring businesses thrive. Therefore, the goal is to make improvements that will upgrade the corridor without compromising mobility or functioning businesses.
